Welcome to Karns Middle School Library Media Center!

HELP!
Parents, grandparents, teachers, friends -- if you have a gently used comfy chair, rug, beanbag, etc., that is just taking up space at your house, please consider donating it to the library for our new reading areas, encouraging pleasure reading and relaxation.  We're also looking for a chess set or two.   Please call Mrs. Cragwall at 539-7740 if you can help us make our reading areas welcoming and homey.

KMS Library Media Center is a pleasant facility offering students a collection of books, periodicals and technology to meet their academic and recreational needs.  All materials are selected with the student in mind.  The library staff is available to assist each student in locating resources for research or selecting materials for recreation.
The staff welcomes visitors and will be happy to answer questions you may have.

The library has lots of New Books.  Check them out on the "New Books" cart across from the sign-in sheets at the entrance to the library.

INTRODUCING the 2011-2012 Volunteer State Book Award Nominees!!

What is the Volunteer State Book Award program?  Every year, 20 really good (no, really, they’re really good!) books are nominated at each of three levels (elementary, intermediate, and young adult).  Kids across the state vote for their favorite, with the winner announced in the spring.

Can I vote? If you read at least three of these books, you may vote for your favorite in the spring. You have a voice!! Make it heard and read some great books along the way!

How do I vote? In late March, Mrs. Cragwall will ask everyone who has read at least three books to vote for their favorite. She will send the results to the folks who will compile all votes from schools across the state and announce the winner.

So, what’s on the VSBA list, anyway? You’ll find new books by some of your favorite authors, like Gary Paulsen, Peg Kehret, Andrew Clements, and Phyllis Reynolds Naylor. The Karns Middle School Library has most of this year’s nominees; if you can’t find something you’re interested in here, try the Knox County Public Library.
